#Project PRAISE

Dr. Amy Clausen

Hello! I am an assistant professor of special education at Winthrop University. As a former classroom teacher of students with extensive support needs, I know how rare it is for special education teachers to have the opportunity to engage in high-quality, relevant professional development. That's why I've developed #Project PRAISE (Promoting Rigorous Academic Instruction for Students with Extensive support needs). I am here for all your professional development and consulting needs for schools and districts in the Upper Palmetto region of South Carolina.

Education

2019-2021

University of North Carolina at Charlotte

I earned my PhD in special education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2021. My dissertation was titled, "Embedding Numeracy Instruction within Standards-Based Algebra Lessons for Secondary Students with Extensive Support Needs."

2015-2017

University of Cincinnati

I earned my M.Ed. in foundations of behavior analysis at the University of Cincinnati in 2017. Although I chose not to pursue certification as a BCBA, the skills and knowledge I learned in this program have been critical in my success as a special educator.

2010-2014

Morehead State University

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education: Moderate to Severe Disabilities and Elementary Education in 2014 at Morehead State University. The education I received at Morehead not only prepared me to teach, but inspired me to pursue my PhD and become a teacher educator.
